Resolutions are a tradition at the beginning of each new year. For some of us, these resolutions are abandoned nearly as soon as they are proposed. They are too far-reaching, too demanding, too unmanageable, or just plain impossible. It seems that lately however, lots of folks have a new perspective. Rather than definite resolutions, they are focusing on aspirations or goals. Cathy, of Nanacathydotcom, has made a list of her aspirations. For 2016, she has 16 items on her list. With her permission, I’ve stolen this idea, and the following is my version of 16 for 2016.
16 for 2016
16 yoga sessions and walks per month (that is 4 per week – 3 days off, easy!)
15 minutes of meditation daily (personal time of gratitude and reflection)
14 new vegetarian recipes attempted (how many versions of roasted veggies can I find?)
13 new books read (finished!)
12 lazy, do-nothing days (seems like a lot when it’s planned ahead!)
11 pieces of clothing completed for SWAP 2016 (better shake a leg)
10 pieces of cello music learned (lessons begin again soon)
9 sewing techniques learned (is making a muslin a “technique”?)
8 hours month volunteering (so many opportunities)
7 handmade gifts made (make-ahead for Christmas?)
6 outings with mama (every other month)
5 new cookbooks (ethnic, vegetarian, vintage …. )
4 seasonal deep clean and decorative nod (won’t it be nice to honor each season)
3 wedding outfits (MOB dress / mom, bride rehearsal dresses)
2 complete meals planned per week (not just last-minute “here, let’s have this”)
1 convert the empty room for my sewing/dressing room (this is a big one!)
0 excuses (self-explanatory)
Seem remotely doable? Good luck to all who are attempting any form of to-do list!!
Stitch on everyone; even John Lennon did it!
Fabulous list, I especially like 12 lazy days, Good luck, Sure you will manage most if not all of them! Keep us posted on progress!

Thanks Leslie, there is an in-home yoga studio just a few doors away from me, so there is absolutely no excuse not to go.
BTW, I made your Shepherd’s Pie recipe, but with sweet potatoes since they were in my cupboard…it was fabulous! So good, in fact, we had made a mess of it before I could get a photo. Planning to make it again soon. Happy New Year!

Thank you Abi! Don’t you love yoga? I’ve not practiced in a long while, and it is time to get back – really helps to keep these knees mobile!

Ooh! I’m intrigued by the MOB dress. Will you be making your own?
I am also a yogini (as my yoga teacher calls us). Will you be going to a class or doing it in front of a DVD?
WIth 5 new cookbooks on your list that should make the 2 planned meals a breeze to achieve.
These sound more manageable (and pleasant) than the usual resolutions.

Oh good grief…responded yet again without being in the box………….

By George, you’re right Lynn, the cookbooks must come first…and soon! (It’s my list, and I hadn’t thought of that)
I am hoping to make my own. The wedding is in October, at the beach. We saw The Danish Girl (very good, btw) recently and I was particularly taken with one dress. Contrast panels front and back, but in an unexpected way.
There is a yoga studio right down the street, and I’m determined to call them Monday. I do have a written program from an instructor I had a few years ago that I follow sporadically. It helps me so much! I like the idea of being a yogini. 😀

Dear Lord, are you sure? That looks like a mega list to me – Good Luck! I do like the idea of 16 aspirations though so will have a ponder myself for a gentler list! Happy New a Year to you!

Thank you! I will call upon that good luck more than once, I’m sure. 😉 It is a mega list to be sure, but my silent promise is to not beat myself up….so that might apply at the end of the year. We shall see…… And Happy New Year to you too!

Thanks Kim. I haven’t made any such “formal” list in a very long time, so it should be interesting. And effective I hope!

Thank you! Too bad I didn’t start years ago when there were only 5 or 10….it will only go up from here. Yikes.

This is heroic. I like your style and I know you are someone who makes commitments and follows them through. I am most excited by the weddings and the SWAP; so many reasons to keep following your blog!

Thank you Kate! I am just starting my first SWAP garment, and it might require a change to my line-up. The wedding is very exciting! Moved from spring to October, a lovely season at the coast.

Best of luck with your (huge!) list of goals! My only realistic one is to keep blogging twice a week which, in itself, is enough to keep me creating:)

Thank you Sheila. You know, I never set a firm schedule for blogging…hopefully this will keep me going with that more regularly, too.

Oh you just completed a sewing room do-over? Did it take long? I can’t wait to get started on it, but it will be some time still. And all the best to you in 2016 as well!

A heroic list, but fun, too. I admit that I can only do short-term lists, as I am rather fickle. 🙂 I look forward to seeing your SWAP develop!

Thank you! I had to include a wide variety to ensure at least most of it is accomplished. First project of 2016 will be a blouse for the SWAP – already my plan is morphing….. 🙂
