Button, button, who’s got the button?
This week’s Photo Challenge is BUTTON. Like many others, I am rather obsessed with buttons, especially those of the vintage variety. And more specifically, the vintage buttons from my mother’s collection.
However, lately I have acquired a different button obsession. Our old house constantly requires attention. One of the continual little projects has been updating the shabby (or modernized) button light switches. We’ve acquired quite the variety of light switch covers. Such as….
switches with 2 buttons,
and 4-button switches like this one downstairs…
and its upstairs counterpart with 4 pearl buttons,
6-button switches,
and an especially interesting one (albeit a blurry photo) with 2 buttons and a twisty knob!
Pleased to be linking up with the 52 Week Photo Challenge again after missing several weeks, and thanks to its creators:
Cathy from Nanacathydotcom
Jane from Rainbowjunkiecorner
Melissa from The Aran Artisan
Sandra from Wild Daffodil
Purchased on a lark
Rush to push them one and all
Old buttons made new
Also joining up with Ronovan’s Weekly Haiku Challenge. This week’s prompts were LARK and RUSH.
Fab buttons, one & all!
Question on the light-switch variety ~ Did you have to rewire the house, and these became un-usable?
My apologies! The frustrated DIYer comes out sometimes. 😉
(Got that ickle packet yet? Hope you can use & enjoy!) xx

Hi Del, Some of them needed some new wiring, but most were just fine, amazingly! I do think they are very cool.
Yes, I received the packet!! Thank you so much! And that bit of ribbon (Petersham?) is lovely, too. I’m hoping we can chat before I leave, but just don’t know…..how time gets away. Wielding that heavy paintbrush really gets in the way of my travel preparations. I’ll shoot you an email in the morning. 🙂

Yes, its Petersham ribbon. I’d found a batch months ago and stocked up. Glad the packet arrived! Am amazed that the electric switches were still working. Hope you’re keeping them! Have a lovely time on your trip!

We were lucky that the electrical bits are still usable (all those covers I posted are new – although we have a couple of the original pushbuttons upstairs). We did have a contractor comment on the “nest” of electric wires in the old basement laundry room!

Yikes! Did that electrician sort out the nest!? Hope your flights are okay & you’re able to sleep tonight. 😉

We did sort it out. Sort of, that is, we capped them off….
Thank you! Sleep sounds good already! 😉

whey hey!!!! welcome back! another for the Phaiku challenge – brilliant! Those light switch buttons are extraordinary.
I wonder if future generations will love button collections as much as we do.

Thank you! And who could not just love the old buttons?? They are so very special. Even those that can only be “worn” on the wall. 😉

What incredible light switches. I love your buttons!

Thank you! I think they’re such fun. They remind me of my grandma’s old bungalow, she had those push-buttons, too.

Love the light switches. What’s the twisty knob for – is it a dimmer switch?

Thank you! Yes, it’s a dimmer – something not in the original light fixtures, as you can imagine. A prior owner put up a fancy-dancy chandelier in the dining room that uses the dimmer.

Those light switches are amazing Jen. How utterly lovely. I also really like the colour of your vintage buttons – they work together so nicely.

Oh thanks, I really love them. I was surprised to see so many green and brown buttons in the collection….did we all really dress in such drab colors way back when? 😉

Very fancy, I’ve not seen any like before, so good that they still work 😀

Oh, so fancy! We’ve been replacing the non-pushbuttons to make them more period-appropriate. Still have some to go. The electrical system was in decent shape, all things considered.

Both of your types of button projects are pretty cool. Wish I’d kept some of Mom’s and Grandma’s buttons. My Grandma saved everything and would be rolling over in her grave right now knowing all that I get rid of. 🙂 (And I’m a bit of a pack rat.:))

My mom’s button box is still with my sister in Sacramento, I think. Hoping it will make its way to mom (who is with me). I’m a pack rat, too, attempting to reform.
