The prompt for this week’s Photo Challenge is CHECK. Oh, this one would be easy! I knew immediately what CHECK to use – my green and red checked Christmas tablecloth. It’s packed away with other Christmas decorations in the attic, and as I trudged upstairs to retrieve it, I came upon….
A tiled entry
A little throw rug
A fabric scrap
A window pane check
A trio of wooden trivets
And my very favorite, this charming cutting board, made by a good friend.
Take a peek around your home, I’ll just bet you’ll find CHECKS aplenty, hiding in plain sight.
Thanks to the creators of this challenge:

Melissa from The Aran Artisan
Sandra from Wild Daffodil
What a beautiful cutting board! I’d be scared to use it 😉

Haha, if you look closely, you’ll see that there are no cutting lines; in 5 years, I’ve never used it! I just keep it oiled and on display. One day I’ll have to break it in. But not yet. 🙂

Oh my that is a lovely lot of checks. I have been surprised by how many check tops I possess. Love your tablecloth.

It was funny how they just kept appearing (in such different and perhaps not exactly “checked” forms) in just one little walk through the house. Hmmm, I have no checked garments at all….and I’ve always loved them. Need to remedy that. (Is houndstooth considered a check?)

Houndstooth is deffo a check!

Good idea – will have a look around. Knew I didn’t have checked textiles . . .

I am encouraging Jen to add haiku, she all but writes them with her image text

Love it! “so clean too” made me laugh…the bottom half of that window, where the cats sit, is covered with tiny nose prints! Not so clean out of camera shot. 😉

I absolutely love this post Jen! You found so many great checks. The thing I like most about these challenges is that it encourages me to look at the world around me in a different way – noticing new things and seeing old things differently – fantastic! If I was into given awards yours would definitely get the GOLD STAR!!!!

I am blushing now Sandra, thank you! This challenge had an interesting snowball effect….the checks just kept presenting themselves. 😀 (and if I had a GOLD STAR I’d hang it in my sewing room for inspiration – or more likely I just need a swift kick in the …..) Your weekly challenge has become such an eye-opening, enjoyable quest. Still have to try the haiku, if that doesn’t stretch my poor brain till it snaps.

You certainly found a lot of checks. I like the red and green cloth at the top is that what you meant by your Christmas cloth?

Thank you! Yes, that is my very well-used Christmas table cloth. Isn’t it fun and festive?

Funny how what seems easy at the start has a way of sneaking up on us with complications! I’ve been busy with my own little Haiku too.
Wonder if you have ever walked into a Christmas gathering only to find you are wearing the same check ‘shawl’ as the table is wearing?

I haven’t yet attempted the haiku…but I’m getting closer! That’s a funny thought about the Christmas shawl matching the table. (One time we went out for dinner and my ex-husband was wearing a shirt that was an almost perfect match to the booth upholstery)

I’d better not tell you about the time the Groom, Best Man, and Sides Men’s dress jackets all perfectly matched another cousin’s new sofa ~~~

Oh yes, you should tell, and the photos must have been hysterical! 😀

I love the way these prompts engage your creativity and ours, the readers. I was thinking of checking things out, and asking for a check or bill. I love your bread board especially.

Thanks, Kate. The challenges really are fun (and challenging)! The bread board is such a treasure! My friend (since the 60s) builds magnificent hardwood floors, and these are made from scraps. I chose the woods and a rough pattern, he did the rest.
