The prompt for this week’s Photo Challenge is FERN. Our backyard FERNS are blasting through the mulch, providing abundant photo opportunities.

I have used your text from your images to do a 3/5/3 syllable haiku. You wrote it Jen.

There are no rules in English Haiku other the than try and aim for 3 lines and try to work on a syllable pattern of 3/5/3 or 5/7/5. but again if writing in English there are no hard rules even about season reference that is fundamental to Japanese poems. Japanese haiku has a tradition of 17 syllables but that is in Hiragana and translation to English or from English to Japanese is challenging. Have a look at Donovan Writes where Sandra and Melissa and I along with lots of others send in haiku. https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2016/05/16/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-97-magicglimmer/. Click on the links in the comment box to see the poems. There are also some haiku tips links on Ronovan’s page at the top.
