This week’s Photo Challenge topic is SECRET. How juicy! What shall I reveal? What can I reveal? Why, nothing, of course, or it’s no longer a secret. I do have a cute little SECRET story , though.
My parents divorced when I was just a baby. They each remarried and had new families. I was fortunate to have parents and step parents who were civil, treated each other well, and never spoke ill of any of the other extended family.
I remember the time when my stepmother, a tiny, beautiful, feisty Latin woman came to our home to share one of her favorite Mexican dishes with my tiny, beautiful, reserved Welsh mother. This was her SECRET recipe for Chile Rellenos. My mother typed the recipe and placed it not in her main recipe box, but in a SECRET location. More than once I inquired about the recipe, and was denied, even after both my dad and stepmom had passed away. Any SECRET is safe with my mother!
As mama prepared to move in with us, I copied some of her recipes for her and happened upon the SECRET Chile Rellenos recipe! I’ve yet to make it, but do plan to very soon.
The old recipe card is rather the worse for wear, but I think Sally would be very pleased to know we are still enjoying her dish, and that her SECRET was never divulged.
Thanks to the lovely creators of this challenge:

Oh that is brilliant, the very best secret, a family recipe.

Secret recipes are such a nice tease. And I like the way you produced the photo so we haven’t got a clue about how to make it.

I considered revealing, but just couldn’t do it. The secret is safe…. 😉

I just love anything remotely chilli-fied (is that a word?!). I hope we see a photo of it steaming hot in your Sunday sevens when you get round to making it. 😀

Oh, chili-fied should be a word! I’ve been cooking a bit more lately and haven’t photographed a single thing! I promise to get a shot of this when it’s made.

A wonderful story. Don’t all families have a secret recipe? Not all do so well at keeping the secrets 😃

Thank you! I must say, we have done surprisingly well keeping this quiet. Yay! 😉
