Sunday Sevens – Week 74

It’s Sunday again! That means it’s time for Natalie’s Sunday Sevens. Check out the Sevens on her blog, Threads and Bobbins. Maybe you’ll want to join in!

A bit of sport

from campusimages.com

Today in America, it also means Super Sunday. As in Super Bowl Sunday. Carolina Panthers vs Denver Broncos. Carolina has a powerful team, led by young quarterback, Cam Newton. Newton is extremely talented, fun to watch and has a great future ahead of him. Denver is championship team; previous Super Bowl winners. Their very popular quarterback, Peyton Manning, a man of undeniable skill, is retiring after enjoying a stellar career. Can you guess who I’m pulling for? Let’s see the old man go out with a bang. Go Broncos!

A bit of freshness

Bundled up in coats, boots, gloves and hats, hubby and I ventured out into the cold (and a random snowflake or two) to visit the Rochester Public Market. This is a massive open farmer’s market, with a small mall and an enclosed corridor with meats, some prepared foods, and more veggies.

Ice Cream for Breakfast?

IMG_6034

First stop was Boulder Coffee, celebrating Ice Cream for Breakfast Day….they offered free sample sized scoops of vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of balsamic syrup. From the myriad of flavors, we had to try the chocolate. Yummy!

Must have cheese

Next we popped in at VM Giordano Imports European Cheese Shop. Oh yes, we selected three chunks to take home. Three! We do love our cheese around here. And we found, in another (unphotographed) shop, some 5-year-old cheddar. We bought some of that, too, and have already broken into it. Happy cheesy people.

 Freshness

Here is part of the haul. I see some roasted veggies in our immediate future!

A bit of culture

IMG_6051IMG_6050We enjoyed the performance of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Hubby’s “symphony” face. Isn’t he sophisticated? (shhh, he is unaware this picture has been published for all the world to see.) Need to hone my selfie skills.

The obligatory cat

Miss Frieda found a new box. Contrary to appearances, she was happy in there, and clearly didn’t appreciate having her reverie interrupted for a photograph.

Hope your next seven days are fabulous, and we’ll see you back here next Sunday!

    • We do love our striped kitty friends, don’t we. They make me laugh every day. Will be watching the game, but no party. It starts late here, at dinner time, so just regular fare. (Maybe some chips and salsa for “dessert”!)

  1. What! A Farmer’s Market this time o’ year a-way up in snow country? I’m gob-smacked! (Sounds more appropriate than “surprised” ~ hehe!) Those cheeses do look wonderful, and do admire your restraint. Delightful selfies… does he read your blog, I wonder. . . (wicked chuckle). Stay warm & good luck with today’s game. I’ll be sewing blissfully away til Downton time tonight. Cheers!

    • I was surprised at the abundance of fresh veggies….but some were imported, some hot house, some stored from fall harvest, and some brand fresh out of the ground – like the parsnips and carrots. Fabulous! Hubby does not read the blog as far as I know…I suspect that’s a good thing, don’t you?
Sew away then, I’ve a couple of projects lined up for next week.

  2. Ice cream for breakfast day – I like the sound of that! In fact my daughter and I must have been inadvertently celebrating it as we had one at 10.30 ☺

  3. I’m not bothered for the cheese (unless it’s on a jacket spud!) but I’m definitely up for ice cream for breakfast! Miss Frieda looks very serious! But I suppose all cats do, I’d love to know what they’re thinking! 🙂

  4. Your poor husband, will you tell him? He reminds me – in this picture anyway – of a British actor but I can’t quite put my finger on which one.
Great photo of Miss Frieda – you have caught her amazing eyes really well.

    • Poor hubby for sure. And you know, I haven’t managed to divulge that little bit of information yet. 😉 Perhaps at a later time. Or not. But I love the picture. I lucked out with Frieda, she usually avoids me when camera (phone) is pointing at her.

  5. I’m very impressed with the variety at your farmers market! Our local one is nice, but it’s just like a small store really with the basics – I do wish we had bigger variety! Miss Frieda is looking very sweet 🙂
